Hearing the word ‘creativity’ makes me immediately think about colors. Lots of colors. However, the more I think of it, the more I think about anything else. Such as lines, dots, or some shapes that is kind of odd but beautiful in their own way. What is creativity? Based on, creativity is:

1. the state or quality of being creative.
2. the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or imagination: the need for creativity in modern industry; creativity in the performing arts.
3. the process by which one utilizes creative ability: Extensive reading stimulated his creativity.

Then I think of something else. What is creativity? creativity is..

Making something out of nothing.
Innovating and redefining old things to make new.
Something irregular. Something abnormal. Something different.
Surprising and catching people of guard.
Old becomes new — as if by magic.
Nonsense that makes perfect sense.
Outside the box.
Foreign, yet enchanting.

Listing to answer, but inherently having the list have a special meaning.
Fruit of a year’s hard thinking, or a good night’s sleep.
Or a second of watching the neighbor’s dog with his tails waggling.
Every human’s mission in life.

More than any single definition, Creativity is the human’s gift, the human’s curse.
A sentient creature’s capability of going further than instincts.
It is what enabled man to invent, to develop, to understand.
It is what enabled the birth of sciences, the arts, the religions.
It was what the prehistoric cavemen utilised when they harnessed fire for the first time.
It was what the ancient Greeks utilised when they made a hollow wooden horse to hide inside, then lay siege to Troy from within its impenetrable walls.
It encompasses everything, it is both the root of what comes out of the mind and the result of what comes out of the mind.
It’s almost miraculous. It might as well be God. It might BE God.

But seriously, creativity is what a college student use masterfully when we’re on a deadline of 6 hours at 1AM and have to make 5-page analysis on an annual financial report. And that’s the only kind of creativity that matters. at least for me (and for now).
